Markets Overview:

UK 100 called to open +2 points points at 7625; This comes on the back of another positive trading day yesterday for the UK Index , seeing the UK bluechip index gaining another 41 points.  Overnight trading in Asia was mixed but as to be expected this close to Christmas, somewhat muted, the Nikkei closing at 23,830 (+9 points) and the Hang Seng closing at 27, 864 (-42 points).  It was more buoyant in the US yesterday, seeing the Dow Jones closing at 28,551, another fresh record high (+96 points).  The Nasdaq closing at 8,945 (+20 points) and the S&P 500 completing the green sweep at 3,224 (+3 points).  Oil recovered from yesterdays lows to trade at $66.7 per barrel. Whilst gold continued to creep higher, trading at $1490.

In corporate news this morning:

 

Bodycote has entered into an agreement to acquire Ellison Surface Technologies ('Ellison'), creating one of the world's largest providers of thermal spray and engineered coating surface technology services to the aerospace industry.

 

John Laing Group announces that it has entered into an agreement to invest A$51.5m (approximately £28m) in the East Rockingham Resource Recovery Facility in Perth, Australia. This investment will take John Laing's total investment commitment in 2019 to approximately £185m.
