UK 100 called to open flat this morning at 7210; After markets closed yesterday parliament blocked PM Boris Johnson's plan to rush the Brexit deal into law, Johnson now looks likely to push for a snap election to break the impasse, whilst the EU prepares for further delays. Stateside trading was muted repaying the Mondays gains, the Dow Jones closed -40 points, whilst the Nasdaq was the biggest loser -59 points. It was a mixed session in Asian as Brexit uncertainty hit global sentiment, the Nikkei closed +87 points, however the Hang Seng closed the day -230. OIl pulled off yesterdays lows of $59 to settle at $59.7 per barrel. Whilst gold maintained its level around $1490, currently sitting at $1488.
In corporate news this morning:
Antofagasta Q3 2019 production report with continued strong copper production and lower costs. Group copper production +15.6% and gold production +88.7%. The board expects FY 2019 to deliver production in line with annual guidance.
Fresnillo Q3 2019 production update reported quarterly silver production -7.9%, year-to-date silver production -11.8%, quarterly gold production -5.2% and year-to-date gold production -7%. FY 2019 silver and gold production likely to be at the lower end of the guided ranges.
Metro Bank announces that the bank’s founder Vernon Hill will step down as chairman with immediate effect. Sir Michael Snyder has been appointed interim chairman with immediate effect until a permanent successor is appointed.
Rio Tinto to review the future of it’s New Zealand aluminium smelter due to high energy costs and challenging outlook continuing to make this asset unprofitable.
