Markets Overview:

UK Index called to open -30 points at 7322; this comes on the back of news that EU President Jean-Claude Juncker has said he is confident a Brexit deal can be done by October 31st deadline and “is open to scrapping the Irish backstop”. In focus today will once again be the UK 100 oil mining constituents with tensions rising in the Gulf, oil prices have once again picked up, Crude oil now sitting at $65 a barrel. During U.S sessions the Dow Jones had only it’s second negative trading day in the last 9 (albeit just a 52 point drop). Asian sessions were more buoyant overnight, seeing the Nikkei close positive 30 points. Gold once again picked up slightly, creeping back above the key $1500 handle to settle at $1506.

In corporate news this morning:

Amerisur Resources reserves update for the Indico, Mariposa and Platanillo fields. Total Company reserves estimated to be 15.04 Million Barrels of Oil Equivalent (MMBO), 21.80 MMBO and 31.13 MMBO, with 1.2 mmboe produced in 2019 to end July.

 

Hurricane Energy reported that their Rona Ridge Assets have achieved first oil on schedule and on budget.  They have sold over 1.6 million barrels of oil across four cargoes and Lancaster has been producing at an average of 14,100 barrels of oil per day. Achieved operating profit for H1 2019 of $1.2m (2018: operating loss of $4.7m). Loss after tax of $21.2m (2018: $75.1m).  

 

Investec announce 1H 2020 adjusted operating profit is expected to be slightly behind prior period. EPS are expected to be 15-18% behind prior period. Customer accounts (deposits) +2.7%, HY core loans and advances +4%.

RBS have announced the appointment of Alison Rose as CEO from the 1st November 2019.

 

Rolls Royce announce more disruptions to their Trent 1000 engines which will be delayed until Q2 2020.
