UK Index called to open +23 Points at 7356 this morning; On the back of news that Donald Trump wants a full deal on trade with China but he would consider an interim pact in the meantime. The deal would delay and roll back some tariffs in exchange for commitments on intellectual property and agricultural purchases, people familiar said. Asian sessions were quieter overnight as China, South Korea, Sri Lanka and Taiwan were all closed today. However those Asian markets that were open showed signs of further positive sentiment picking up a third days growth. Stateside the Dow Jones added a 7th straight days gain as further advances in trade talks, once again saw markets spike. Oil continued to fall sharply yesterday however stabilised overnight, seeing the fall from the $63 handle continue to settle at $60 a barrel. Gold has retraced from yesterdays spike to sit at $1500 having yesterday hit $1524, further evidence of risk on sentiment.
SSE has entered into an agreement to sell its SSE energy services business to OVO energy limited for £500m. The deal compromises £400m cash and £100m in loan notes.
JD Wetherspoon reports full year like-for-like sales +6.8%, revenue +7.4%. profit before tax -4.5%, operating profit -0.3%, EPS -4.7% and full year dividend maintained at 12p. They anticipate a reasonable outcome for the current financial year, given brexit uncertainty.
