Markets Overview:

UK Index called to open +50 Points at 7370 this morning; This comes on the back of news that China plans to exempt certain US goods from retaliatory tariffs, as fresh talks loom.  This 'Olive branch' from China sent global markets soaring, ad Donald Trump postponed 5% extra tarriffs on $250bn worth of imports from China by 2 weeks to October 15th as a gesture of goodwill. the Dow Jones making it 6 straight days of gains and breaking through 27000 (adding 227 points to close above 27130).  This drove risk on in Asia, seeing a green sweep across the board.  This momentum has also filtered through into UK Index futures, with a green open expected this side of the Atlantic also, having yesterday broken through that key 7300 level, meaning a one month gain on the UK Index of over 300 points (+4.5%)Oil fell sharply yesterday and overnight, seeing the $63 handle breached and settling around $61 a barrel.  Gold has recovered from its lowest levels settling just shy of the key $1500 handle, having been as low as $1484.

 

In corporate news this morning:

 

Amerisur Resources reported H1 2019 revenues of $53.8m (2018: $67.9m), profit before tax of $4.4m (2018: $12.5m). They expect to reach or exceed the top of full year 2019 production guidance of 5,000-6,000 BOPD. 

Hurricane Energy announce positive results from their Lincoln Crestal well

Morrison WM Supermarkets reported +5.3% rise in first-half profit, though quarterly underlying sales fell for the first time since 2016. Pretax profit of £198m (2018: £188-192m).  They expect retail and like-for-like sales to improve for full year 2019.
