Markets Overview:

UK Index called up 7 Points at 7515; This is despite rising tensions between the UK and Iran over the seizure of UK tanker in the Gulf.  Departing PM Teresa May will hold a meeting of the Cobra committee today to discuss the issue. Overnight Asian sessions were muted seeing the Nikkei shelling around a quarter of a percent & the Hang Seng losing nearly one percent.  Oil rebounded from its lows of Thursday ($62 per barrel) now sitting at $63.6. Gold continued to climb touching $1430 in overnight trading before settling at $1425.

 

In corporate news this morning:

Anglo American platinum production update. EBITDA +82% and EPS +82%. Also zero fatalities at own managed operations. 

Whitbread have completed their £2.5bn return of capital programme and announced the purchase of 40m ordinary shares at a strike price of 4,972p. 

Metro Bank confirms discussions regarding the potential sale of a loan portfolio are taking place.

IQE announces Dr Howard Williams Chief Operating Officer will retire at the end of 2019 from his current role, who was a founding member of the company.

Petra Diamonds trading update announces FY production of 3.87 Mcts v FY 2018 3.84 Mcts, in line with guidance. FY 2020 guidance expected to be 3.8 Mcts.
