Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS.L) – Returned to profit int he first half of the year, first time in three years. H1 profits beat estimated on operating profit; £1.69bn against estimates of £1.04bn while revenue also came in 15% higher at £3.6bn. Closing price 256.30p (Bloomberg)

Pearson PLC (PSON.L) – Issued a H1 statement stating it had generated £2.05bn in sales but posted a net loss and slashed its interim dividend payment by 72% to 5p share down from 18p. It will also slash 3,000 jobs. Closing price 669.00p (Bloomberg / Reuters)

Merlin Entertainments (MERL.L) -  Maintained full-year profit guidance, however remained cautious on its outlook due to the recent attacks in London and Manchester. It made pretax profit of £50m to July 1st, the same as last year, despite a 9.6% rise in revenue. Closing price 462.80p (Reuters)
