BHP Billiton Ltd (BLT.L) - H1 profit jumped 10% as commodity prices surged on increased demand from China, signaling growing confidence in the rally with a 150% increase in dividend and a bond buyback. Underlying profit rose to $3.24bn in the six months through Dec. 31, a huge increase compared to $412m a year previous. The result beat the $2.94bn average estimate among seven analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. Closing price 1400.00p (Bloomberg)
Cobham PLC (COB.L) - Is considering a rights offering to help repay debt and restructure unprofitable operations. It could seek to raise £300m-£600m after recently issuing its fifth profit warning in 18 months, laying bare more than £830m of charges, goodwill impairments and profit revisions. Galliford Try Plc (GFRD.L) – Saw strong H1 performance with profit before tax up 19% to £63.0m, with its interim dividend up 23% to 32.0p reflecting confidence in full year outlook. Closing price 1516.00p (Bloomberg)
Wolseley (WOS.L) – Has signed an agreement to merge Tobler, its Swiss plumbing and heating business, with Walter Meier. If it is completed, Wolseley expects to receive cash consideration of CHF117.8m and a 39.2% minority holding. Closing Price 5015p (Reuters)
