HSBC (HSBA) - Will cut almost 50,000 jobs from its payroll, almost a fifth of its workforce, take an axe to its investment bank and shrink its risk weighted assets by $290bn in an effort to improve its sluggish performance. Closing price 619.50p (Reuters)

Tesco (TSCO) - Has invited at least six firms including KKR & Co and Carlyle Group to bid for its South Korean unit Homeplus, valued at about $6bn, people familiar with the matter told Reuters. Closing price 203.5p. (Reuters)

UK Retailers: Overnight BRC data showed UK retail sales failing to reverse April’s sharp falls in April despite consumer confidence at near pre-crisis levels (BRC)

Int. Consolidated Airlines (IAG) - US airlines weak overnight, S5AIRL Index hit new 7-month lows. CEO also raised concerns about airline costs. Closing price 520.5p  (Credit Suisse + FT)
