Barratt Developments (BDEV.L) – Is confident that its gross margins would rise on the back of strong sales, particularly in London, becoming the latest builder to post buoyant results. Barratt built just over 14,800 homes in the year to June 2014, said it would meet its group sales target of 15,000 completions in the coming year and was on track to see gross margins rise to at least 20% by 2017. Burberry (BRBY.L) – Pointed to a "more difficult external environment" as it posted a 6% rise in half-year adjusted pre-tax profit that was in line with forecasts. Adjusted profit before tax of £152m (£155.7m expected) increases dividend by 10% to 9.7p. Closing Price 1528.00p (Bloomberg)
Punch Taverns (PUB.L) – Profit jumps 41% to £68.6m from £48.6m a year earlier. Closing Price 148.75p (Reuters)
Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS.L), HSBC (HSBA.L) and Barclays (BARC.L) – Regulators have ordered five banks to pay about $3.3bn to settle a probe into the manipulation of benchmark foreign-exchange rates. Royal Bank of Scotland paid $634m and HSBC Holdings paid $618m. Barclays, which had been in late-stage settlement talks with both regulators, pulled out at the last minute for reasons that weren’t immediately clear. Sainsbury's (SBRY.L) – Said it would rein in spending on new stores and find more cost savings to finance price cuts. Maintains its interim dividend but said profitability would be lower in the second half than the first half. Profit before tax and one off items of £375m (£350m expected) but down from £400m in the same period last year. Closing Price 269.10p (Reuters)
SSE (SSE.L) – Pretax profits rose 4.6% to £370.3m, interim dividend increased by 2.3% to 26.6p. Believes adjusted EPS in 2014/15 will be at lower end of range. Closing Price 1580.00p (Reuters)
