Balfour Beatty (BBY.L) - said trading at its mechanical and electrical engineering division had worsened, resulting in a £35m profit shortfall. shortfall would be broadly offset by targeted public-private partnership disposals in the second half of the year. overall pre-tax profit expectations for the year were unchanged, in the range £145m to £160m. Poundland (PLND.L) - had made a strong start to its new financial year as it met profit forecasts for 2013-14. sales in its first quarter to June 29 increased 18% to £262.6m ($446.8m), helped by new store openings and a later Easter this year. Closing price 328.7p. (Reuters)

Genel Energy(GNL.L) - seeing a steady increase in oil output from its deposits in Kurdistan as the semi-autonomous Iraqi region is ramping up exports to international markets. Closing price 1023p. (Reuters)

Serco (SRP.L) - forced to raise cash after a collapse in profits, said it expected to write down the value of some of its larger contracts following a review of its business. Closing price 366.3p. (Reuters)

BAE Systems (BA.L) - The defence group has been chosen to further develop its 'anti-insurgent' missile system for the U.S. military. Closing price 424.7p. (Sky News)

Standard Chartered (STAN.L) - Planning to sell private-equity investments valued at about $500m, according to two people with knowledge of the situation. Started cutting jobs in its buyout unit last year. Closing price 1222p. (Reuters)
